The units, dubbed Miniscript 5.6", are proving so successful during the three month series that they now form a regular part of the Autoscript product line. Previous recent productions of Big Brother had used off-the-shelf units which suffered from occasional power-glitches and dangerous moments of black-out especially when used with the handheld cameras associated with Big Brother’s live Friday eviction nights and Big Brother’s Little Brother’s live studio presentation.
Additionally prompting can infringe on the camera operators maneuverability because of the added weight on the front of the camera if it is handheld.
Autoscript had two main issues to overcome. The first was unwanted power-downs in off-the-shelf kit which simply isn’t fit for the rigours of broadcast. Secondly they needed lightweight units to aid the camera team. That product didn’t exist.
Autoscript's policy is never to offer off-the shelf re-packaged solutions, but bespoke broadcast quality solutions. The Mini script 5.6 has all the functions of its larger TFT cousins including composite BNC and hirose inputs yet weighs just 480g.
