Barco supports PERFORMS mammography screening workshop at international breast imaging symposium
Posted on Wednesday, April 15, 2015
Duluth, Ga., USA – 15 April 2015 – Healthcare imaging specialist Barco continues to grow its industry-leading support of breast imaging education, supplying its latest mammography display systems for a new PERFORMS workshop at the 2015 SBI/ACR Breast Imaging Symposium, to be held April 25-28 at Hilton Bonnet Creek in Orlando, Florida.
Since 2005, Barco has collaborated with world-renowned healthcare partners to contribute products and support to the training of more than 6,000 radiologists in over 20 countries worldwide. A new PERFORMS (PERsonal PerFORmance in Mammographic Screening) scheme will be featured at this year’s SBI/ACR symposium to offer clinicians an opportunity to measure their effectiveness at diagnosing breast cancer. Using Barco’s mammography display systems, radiologists will read sets of recent challenging screening cases and report their decisions about each case into the PERFORMS reporting application, which provides immediate feedback.

A clear view toward diagnosis
The quality and speed of the image-loading on screen is critical to a radiologist’s ability to quickly and accurately diagnose patient images. “Our best-in-class diagnostic imaging technologies provide radiologists with a high-quality, reliable solution to help them detect breast cancer, especially at its earliest stages when lesions are very small,” comments Lynda Domogalla, Vice President Product Marketing for Barco.

Barco will provide 10 mammography workstations, featuring Barco’s dual Nio 5MP display systems and MDRC-2221 displays for the patient worklists.

Intensive breast screening education
The low presentation rate of abnormalities makes it difficult for individuals to know how well they are detecting early signs of cancer. A cloud-based educational self-assessment and training scheme, PERFORMS exposes radiologists to a large number of case sets weighted with abnormal mammograms to expand their diagnostic skills. Among other objectives, PERFORMS aims to train radiologists to stretch their abilities to locate and identify potentially suspicious features, develop/improve confidence levels in decision-making, and provide experience with difficult, rare or unusual cancers. The first product of its kind, it is widely used in the United Kingdom to ensure quality assurance of mammography screenings.

Attend a PERFORMS session at SBI/ACR Breast Imaging Symposium
The PERFORMS workshop one-hour sessions will be held April 25-27 from 7:00 am-4:30 pm on Saturday, and until 5:00pm on Sunday and Monday. Space is limited, early registration is advised. For more information and to register, click here.
