Kolkata, India – Located in Salt Lake Sector V, the IT hub of Kolkata, The Cult was created to be a meeting place where like-minded people can gather to discuss the things that unite them. The high-end restaurant and bar is the second venue from the team behind The Biker’s Café. Having experienced the quality and control provided by Electro-Voice and Dynacord in their first venue, the team didn’t hesitate in selecting the same brands again for the new project.

The Cult aims to cater to a wide range of people, so it needed a sound system capable of performing impeccably – no matter what the clientele wanted to listen to at any given time. In addition to this, it needed to be able to handle the venue’s challenging acoustics. With a ceiling height of 24 feet (7.3 meter), two glass walls and no acoustic treatment, The Cult could have become a very reverberant space. However, thanks to some impressive system design and integration from Standard Radio Service, the result is a refined audio environment that helps to build the right atmosphere.

Standard Radio Service’s solution calls on Dynacord FX12-PRO medium/long-throw mid/high-frequency cabinets combined with FX20-PRO horn-loaded subwoofers as the main PA. This is supported by Electro-Voice ZLX-12P 12" powered loudspeakers to ensure an even soundfield across the venue. A separate private dining room is catered to by further ZLX-12Ps, with low-end support from ELX118P subwoofers. Power for the passive elements of the system is via a pair of Dynacord L3600FD 2x 1800W power amplifiers with processing handled by two Electro-Voice DC-One sound system processors.

The result is focused audio coverage that has tamed the bar’s challenging acoustics. This ensures that, regardless of whether it’s providing background music during the day or foreground music for live performances in the evening, The Cult always sounds great and delivers the atmosphere that its owners wanted to achieve.
