JT Bioscopen debuts Barco laser-illuminated projection in The Netherlands
Posted on Thursday, June 19, 2014
Kortrijk, Belgium, 17 June 2014 – Digital cinema technology and market share leader Barco is proud to announce that the Dutch cinema chain JT Bioscopen – together with partner dcinex – will install the revolutionary Barco 6 primary Laser3D (6P) laser-illuminated projector in its brand-new Hilversum Media Park seven-screen multiplex. By premiering laser-illuminated projection in The Netherlands, JT Bioscopen is offering audiences premium image quality and ultimate brightness, revolutionizing the cinema experience.
With 21 multiplexes in 19 cities around the country, JT Bioscopen is the second largest theater chain in The Netherlands. In 2011, long-term Barco partner dcinexTM helped them convert to digital, deploying Barco digital cinema projectors across their entire circuit. A true innovator, JT Bioscopen developed its ‘XD Experience’ auditorium concept, which combines ultimate image quality with immersive cinema sound, for a truly remarkable cinema experience. With its new flagship multiplex in the Hilversum Media Park, JT Bioscopen raises the bar even higher by constructing its own cinema of the future, fully equipped with the latest cinema innovations. What’s more, the location of the new cinema is also special: known as ‘Holland’s Hollywood’, the Hilversum Media Park houses all major Dutch TV and radio stations, production houses, studios and other companies in the audiovisual and entertainment business.

A revolution for the cinema industry
“For our new Hilversum Media Park multiplex, we really wanted to push the envelope on the experience we offer our audiences,” explains Albert Jan Vos, Managing Director at JT Bioscopen. “As an early adopter we’ve always favored Barco’s cutting-edge digital cinema technology, and we are overwhelmed with pride to be pioneering state-of-the-art laser-illuminated projection in The Netherlands – a true revolution in the industry and a key differentiator for the cinema experience.”

A new image quality standard
Thanks to the revolutionary Barco Alchemy technology, the Barco laser-illuminated projector is not only the most compact 60,000-lumen projector available, it is also the first cinema projector that is capable of showing 4K content at 60 fps and 3D movies in full 4K resolution. Showing stunningly bright and uniform images with crisp detail and exceptionally rich colors, the Barco laser projector radically improves general cinema experience – especially in 3D – and all of this with a single projector. Moreover, the Barco projector is unique in its ability to minimize speckle – even on silver screens – eliminating the need for a mechanical screen-vibrating system to achieve the desired image quality.

For an exceptional experience
“When I first saw a demo of the Barco laser-illuminated projector, I was extremely impressed by the razor-sharp images and brightness levels it displayed,” says Gerrit Doorn, Manager Buildings and Projects at JT Bioscopen. “Thanks to this groundbreaking technology, we will captivate audiences with unparalleled image quality, outstanding 3D brightness and superior color performance – for the best viewing experience currently available.”

Leading the way
“With dozens of confirmed installations around the world this year, Barco is leading the way in commercial laser-illuminated projection technology and we are honored that JT Bioscopen selected Barco again,” states Todd Hoddick, VP Global Entertainment at Barco. “Our top-notch laser projection is just one of the many technologies we are providing exhibitors to turn their cinema into a true entertainment destination, to drive crowds to the cinema.”
