Black Box Adds Low-Smoke Zero-Halogen (LSZH) Jackets to its Multicolor Fiber Patch Cable Line to Enhance Safety
Posted on Wednesday, March 8, 2017

PITTSBURGH, PA, March 8, 2017Black Box, a world leading technology solutions provider of high-performance KVM, professional A/V signal distribution and extension and switching solutions, today has expanded its line of multicolored fiber optic patch cables to include cables with Low-Smoke Zero-Halogen (LSZH or LS0H) jackets.

This type of jacket reduces the amount of smoke and toxic gases emitted during combustion. In case of a fire, this improves occupants’ safety as they have more time to exit safely. It also increases safety for fire fighters. LSZH cables, widely used in Europe, are becoming more popular in the United States. The cables are well suited for use in aircraft, rail cars, sea-going vessels and other poorly ventilated, confined-space areas.

The new cables are an addition to Black Box's existing line of multicolored fiber optic patch cables. The cables are available in 12 standard colors making them ideal for color-coded network applications. Instead of having to place a custom order for colored fiber, users can order them using convenient standard part numbers. The line consists of nearly 24,000 SKUs making it the largest line of fiber patch cables in the industry.

The multicolor fiber optic patch cable line includes:

  • 5 cores: OM1, OM2, OM3, OM4 and OS2
  • OFNR, OFNP and LSZH jackets
  • 10 connector combinations
  • 12 colors—from white to violet
  • 13 lengths—from 1 to 30 meters

“This expansion is in response to the increased use of Low Smoke Zero Halogen cables in this country,” says Ryan Hopkins, cable product manager at Black Box. “We see the cables being used in high-risk areas, particularly in transportation industries.”
