Schiphol Airport handles around 53 million pieces of baggage annually, with over 30 kilometers of transport system. Its modern baggage halls are closely monitored by directors in the control room using about 200 cameras. The control room features five operator control desks, each with its own video processor for 10 to 12 screens.
Their outdated video processing system was replaced by the VuWall’s video wall processors, chosen after careful market research by Scarabee Aviation Group with Functional Management Schiphol. Intronics, as a certified VuWall distributor in the Netherlands, played a crucial role in implementing this solution.
CHALLENGE
The challenge was to find a flexible control room solution that could be implemented in a mission-critical environment such as Airport Schiphol, an airport that operates 24/7. An additional challenge which emerged during the design phase was COVID-19.
SOLUTION
After contacting VuWall, Functional Management Schiphol had a demo at Intronics’ AV/KVM test lab. Intronics, together with Scarabee Aviation Group, selected VuWall’s VuScape – a customized video wall processing solution along with its advanced video wall management software, today known as TRx. In the data center of the control room, prefabricated cabling from ACT was used, which further improves reliability and efficiency. The video wall interfaces are directly connected to the control desks with Opticis extenders over fibre-optic cabling. VuWall’s field engineers provided extensive and personalized support onsite during the deployment as well as end user training to the top-level administrators.
RESULT
Today, Schipol’s baggage control center is equipped with a secure, reliable, and easy-to-use video wall system that offers great flexibility. Equipped with 5 video walls and 10 displays, these video walls are operated with a single keyboard and mouse, all powered by a single VuWall video wall controller. With an intuitive graphical user interfaces, operators can quickly and easily make precise adjustments down to the pixel level. The system met all customer requirements and more! The system’s flexibility allows content to be moved from one screen to another and images can be zoomed in and displayed on several screens simultaneously. The overall efficiency and day-to-day operations at Amsterdam’s international airport has greatly improved baggage handling, enhancing overall passenger experiences.
