XLR connectors are available in a variety of configurations and pin numbers. All connectors have nickel plating for reliable connections. The adapters now come in black body finish. 3-pin XLRs are commonly used in the audio industry and in the lighting industry for DMX data connection. 5-pin XLRs are also very popular for lighting industry data connections. 5-pin plugs are the "true" USITT DMX512 lighting standard, although many manufacturers have elected to use 3-pin for flexibility and availability. When converting from 3 to 5 pin, it is important that Pin 1 remains the shield/ground. Pins 2 and 3 both remain the same in both connectors. In the 5-pin connector, pins 4 & 5 remain unused when converting. Our handy adapters provide proper conversions.
